We met up for fro-yo days before I was scheduled to move away. I poured my heart out to her (over watermelon sorbet with sour gummy worms) like friends do and told her all about my fears of moving to a new city. I felt like I was finally starting to find my groove in Mobile as a fashion photographer and blogger and I had spent way too many of those last nights lying awake at night wondering what my “next step” was going to be.
“You should start a blog!” she told me. “A blog about moving to a new city and exploring things for the first time. It’ll make you get out of the house, go on adventures, and meet new people to network with for the future!” This girl? She’s always been the friend with the, “Go out there and chase your dreams!” sort of ideas and I’m so thankful for her and her confidence in me.
We hugged good-bye and promised to keep in touch and when I got home that afternoon, I found my way through the maze of packing boxes in my office, sat down at my computer, and Googled the domain, “The New Girl in Nashville” to make sure it didn’t already exist. And, well…I guess you could say the rest is history!
We moved to Nashville at the end of September and on October 1st, I went out on my first adventure. I was intimidated and afraid. I drove around in circles a few times when my GPS decided to freeze up on Interstate 24, but then I found where I was going, took my camera with me, pretended to look like I knew what I was doing, and documented it all. And a little voice inside of me said, “Kathleen, you’re going to be just fine here.”
The blog has been a work in progress this past month, but I’m super excited to officially launch it to the world today…and have someone join my mother-in-law and bestie in reading it 🙂 On the blog, you’ll find glimpses into my life as a creative and adventurer as well as excerpts from my personal diary. I’m working on a few projects already and I cannot wait to share them with you and introduce you to some pretty amazing people, places, and things. I hope you’ll come along and join me in this new journey!
