I am married to a man with a beard. Once he started the process of growing it out, I noticed that he began to receive two very different reactions. Either people thought it was wonderful and found it highly interesting or they seemed to resort to stereotyping him. I’ve witnessed people with beards being mistakenly perceived in our society as dirty, scary, or lazy.
The heart behind The Beards of Nashville is to use photography of the men of Nashville to showcase beards as the art that they are and share more of a whole picture of who a man with a beard can be.
The art of growing a beard gives a man good characteristics. Growing and grooming a beard requires time, dedication, and spirit. It instills qualities like loyalty, dedication to hard work, and patience in what is being cultivated. I even find that bearded men are often some of the friendliest men you could hope to meet and full of good humor.
